Cindy Romaine is currently the principal of Romainiacs Intelligence Research, an information consultancy that provides in-depth research solutions to clients.
Cindy Romaine was first struck by the way people connect with library resources in her initial job out of college while working in the library at Pacific University. She turned that lightning bolt into a career, contributing to the information and research field in a variety of specialized environments.

Cindy worked for 16 years at Nike, Inc. as the Director of the Design Library and as Corporate Archivist. The Nike Design Library was the recipient of the Special Library Association’s Business and Finance Division Center of Excellence award for management in 2003.
Cindy experience is well-rounded, as she has worked in public and academic libraries for many years.
SLA Board Experience
Cindy just completed a 3½ year term on the SLA Board of Directors in December 2008. In 2008 she chaired the SLA Innovation Laboratory, which attracted participation from 5000+ members and was awarded SLA’s Presidential Citation.
Professional Interests
Cindy’s interests are focused on information management and resources for creatives. She has authored articles regarding SLA’s strategic alignment, the branding of the information profession, and professional competencies. She was a member of the SLA Branding Task Force, served as chair of the Public Relations Committee, and was a member of the Professional Values Task Force.
Ms. Romaine is a long-time contributor to the Oregon chapter of SLA. This year, she is serving a second term as President, having previously served from 1995-1996. Cindy has also served on the professional development, consultation, and PR committees and was co-chair of the Pacific Northwest Regional Conference of SLA in 1995. She was awarded the Greey award, the chapter’s distinguished member award in 2006.
She is a member of the Library Management Division, Museum, Arts and Humanities Division. She is a past member of Business and Finance, Solos, Advertising and Marketing, and Engineering Divisions.
Cindy served on the steering committee for the North American Sport Library Information Network (NASLIN) from 2000 to 2006 and hosted their conference in 2001. She served as a member for the Library Services and Technology Act Advisory Board for Oregon in 2001-2002 as well as on their Evaluation Committee. She served on the University of Washington’s iSchool advisory board from 2002-2005. Cindy has given guest lectures at the University of Washington iSchool and Emporia State’s School of Library and Information Management.
Deep Background
Cindy earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Oregon and graduated from the University of Washington’s MLIS program in 1982.
The Fun Stuff
Cindy lives outside Portland, Oregon, and enjoys yoga, hiking, cooking, and movies with subtitles. She participates in a monthly book group and periodically organizes community potlucks.
